Agree to Smiling Demon, the nebula looks pretty cool.

Additionally to the aforementioned, I'm not quite sure about the asteroid. This is primarily caused by the melting surface; in space, there is no friction, so there wouldn't be anything comparable. A cold, dead rock would probably fit better. Also, I think, it'd look better if it didn't have these spikey edges but a rather flat (yet cratered, if that makes sense) surface.

Other than that, solid work. Keep it up! have a nice day.png

Fully agree with what SD said. It'd look great if you could add some more nebs or some spaceships/asteroids/planets to help countering the empty space on the left side and for increasing the depth. All in all, it looks pretty great so far, don't give up on it yet ;)

How about having the door not fully closed but left open by a tiny bit? It could help with conveying the feeling that something's wrong. Also, how about some faint humanoid shapes lurking in the dark? Just to increase the sense of eeriness.

Other than that, it's definitely an improvement over the last one but I'd try to add even more (or rather: higher saturated) colors. Just give it a try; if it works, then it'll be awesome, if it doesn't.... well... it was worth a try ;)

QUOTE (Kaioshen @ Jul 15 2012, 07:24 AM) *
I'm going back and forth between the opening and the door and I can't decide which one I want to look at.

Funny, I'm spending an unreasonable amount of time staring into the blackness under the opening waiting/hoping that something would stare back at me :p

I do agree about the colors, though. I'm usually a fan of barely-colorized pictures but I think that particularly this piece could use a healthy splash of colors.

Either way, it's a good piece so far. Keep it up! have a nice day.png

I'm probably a couple days late but I'll give it a shot with the crit. First of all, the star clusters on their own look pretty nice but a little more color-variation could be nice, too. Check out some hubble-photos of star-clusters for inspiration, those always work well:

http://www.spacetelescope.org/static/archi...n/heic0608a.jpg
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/msnbc/Componen...itedwarf-4p.jpg

This is just to break the pure red / pure blue parts a little and to give it a bit more randomness. Also, from the thumb, it looked pretty crisp but in full size, the lens-flares look a bit too blurry compared to the dark clouds surrounding. If you can, try to sharpen the diffraction spikes a little to give it the feeling of, well, diffraction spikes....

Secondly, the connection between neb and starfield, what Alastair already pointed out. Right now, it looks a bit isolated; the nebulae being some closed pockets of light in vast emptiness. True, most parts of space are empty, but from an artistic point of view, we'll have a to overthrow science tongue.gif
I personally like to refrain from having purely black backgrounds (disregarding the starfield for now). Thus, it gives me the chance to integrate the nebula better into the image. Just try to place it into some dark filaments of gas (note: "dark", not "black") to give it that bit of details. As the focal point is probably going to be the top left anyways, it doesn't necessarily have to be as detailed, so using hard round and soft round brushes should work better in this case than fractal brushes.

Also, for a bit more sense of depth, it'd be cool to add some more layers of gas. Alternatively, you can try integrating a planet, asteroid, comet, anything, really. Just to feed the eyes with something wink.gif

As for the star-field itself, it is okay. I see that there are some red and blue stars scattered among the white ones, which is good. However, I'm sure that giving some more white stars a red/blue tint would be beneficial; especially when it can intermix with a few fuzzy nebulae of any suitable color.

That's all I can think of right now. Either way, it's already pretty good but try to push yourself even more. This can become something really great!

Totally in for something dead. Either a half-buried skeleton of an animal/human, the stump of a dead tree, etc. Alternatively, some barely uncovered ruins similar to those on the right could work well.

Eh, regardless of what I do, I can't seem to let those two images stack on top of each other tongue.gif

Anyways, looking pretty good. However, the planet still feels a little flat to me. Try to bend it a little with the warp-tool, it works great in those cases wink.gif

Sorry for the ignorance, but what is Vue? never heard of it before :/ (im kinda new to graphics world)

It's a 3D-program that focuses on creating landscapes and other naturally looking environments. It's possible to use it for modeling up to a certain extent as well but Cinema 4D, 3ds Max, and the like are much better for that wink.gif

Just some really minor things from me...

- The water at the bow shouldn't be transparent, imo. A bit more foam would make more sense, considering the QM is huge as nuts tongue.gif
- What is that for a light on the bottom left? Best would be to brush it out, I guess, because I think it would work best with it being left out.
- The white material of the ship could maybe be a tad more reflective to give it a more "paint on metal"-look instead of "rather plastic".
- Everytime I have look at the sea, I have seen quite some waves. Doesn't need to be those 30m-breaking-waves but just a little displacement of the surface.

Yeah, that's all I can think of right now. I really dig the image except for the points mentioned above, though. Great work, keep it up! smile.gif

That's pretty darn awesome, really nice work! I only feel it's a bit too saturated for my tastes and the depth could be a bit stronger. But other than that, it's really great. Keep it up smile.gif

If I tried to install that on it it would just laugh and spit it back out -.-

Haha, welcome to my world! biggrin.gif

I figured that with my current specs, it becomes ridiculous to prepare and render a scene. The time can be better spent with painting... takes a while to get into it (and I'm obviously far from decent tongue.gif) but, at least for me, it's much faster than spending 20h setting up the scene (pretty much 2h doing stuff and 18h idling) and rendering for another 80-100h xD

I've been listening to Evanescence for like a month now!
On repeat over and over!
I have no idea why...

Sounds familiar, I have that with all sorts of bands. Can't and don't want to listen to anything else during that time tongue.gif
However, I'm currently more on a "Well, I like this-and-that, but let's see what the randomizer gives me now" xD

I feel the lava should be a little less red and therefore more orange/yellow. Something like this:

And maybe another volcano in the far back. Just some sort of silhouette with a bit smoke coming out.

As of now, this looks really promising smile.gif

Mmmh, to me, it feels a bit "overfiltered", especially the first one. I personally don't particularly dig those effects as you practically hand over your control to photoshop in the hope something pretty turns out. The best way is to either overpaint areas that you'd like to give some further treatment or overlaying photographic textures. For example, the outlining of the girl in front doesn't blend in well with the environment.

Second point are the values. I see that there is a general understanding of them present but it could be further refined. The zombies should generally be a little lighter, considering that they are not as close to the viewer as the foreground-elements (I feel like I'm saying redundant things tongue.gif). Also, true, the further an object is away, the less details should it have. However, when I look at the frontmost zombie, he/she/it is uniformly colored, whereas the tree behind has a photographic level of detail. This doesn't quite match. Considering that there is a whole lot of ambient lighting going on, it should be equally lit to its surroundings. The zombies in the back could get a slight blue hue just so that they fade nicer into the background.

Then, just a minor thing: the blood on the axe seems to light to me. It's as if it's emitting light. Now, if the girl hasn't slaughtered zombies with flourescent blood, this should actually not happen. My suggestion would be to tone it down a bit.

Oh, and, would be cool if you could remove the line of black pixels on the big tree on the right. After seeing this, I couldn't unsee it anymore xD

The second pic is a bit small but from what I can see (besides the black line) is that the hair could be a little less blurry. If you're struggling with painting hair, there are some great hair-brushes available on dA wink.gif
The rest looks alright to me.

Well, hope that helps a bit smile.gif

Imgur.com if you simply want to put something on there, or Dropbox if you wish to have a little more control over your files. You basically sync a specified folder with the server and then can simply link to it. Pretty useful smile.gif
