Saw it last weekend, not in 3D I'm afraid (the only local cinema that showed it in 3D charges twice as much for tickets, snacks etc even on their normal non-3D movies... yes - I'm cheap dry.gif ) But still saw it and still got mesmeriesed by the whole thing. I liked trying to figure how how each thing was loosly inspired by something from earth but souped up to an amazing size and colour, I really got a kick out of those red plants that pulled in when touched near the beggining, inspired by marine Christmas tree worms that look pretty much the same biggrin.gif reminds us that while Earth is no Pandora, it has some real treasures of which most people have no idea they're contributing to the destruction of.

3D Is a must for this movie; jaw dropping, inspiring, amazing, very enjoyable

Getto transformers, a shame really. 3 third world countries could have been overhauled with the money spent on that piece of crap.

You should have pushed it further, to make good use of this image, you should have altered and added some structures to the city, some flying transports.
The planet seems soft and the clouds and atmosphere work could also be pushed further.

personally I'd think the image would be stronger if it was more widescreen, also there is a lot going on on the left side of the image that distracts the viewer from moving from left to right or the other way around. I do like the fact that it's black and white and it has strong sense of depth.

second that

Damn ed, ease up man. We all started out somewhere right? If you want to give some crits than give them, there's no sense in posting that, it only discourages people away.

I would suggest looking at some art by greg martin and other top artists in the space art genre and see what they are doing. Study and learn how they achieved a certain look, then go back and try it for yourself. Also, don't be discouraged by your results, everything takes time to get used to and understand how it works. Also, read some tutorials too, there are some really good ones out there that would really help you.

Good luck

Yeah maybe too hard man but I recently had several discussions about space art being a slapped together genre with no artistic value at all and that is because everywhere its plagued with stuff like that, so there is a reason for that kind of thinking. I dislike people throwing things together and calling it space art, and building up the disrespect for it, too many pre made sources out there if you ask me.
In any way as I said if he is serious he should thrive through and learn, an I can bet he already seen GM work; but people always try the shortcut; and there is no shortcut in space art you have to work.
But again sorry if it was to harsh.

Stretched satellite photo, no clouds, bad lightning, extremely boring obvious soft brushing for the space dust, bad starfield, dark vertical line at the left, the sun looks nice.
If you are serious about space art, read , read and read some more, then practice, and dont slap things together, unless you want to contribute to trashing space art.
Sorry dude.

Upon further review of the finalists there are some amazing paintings; there are some others that are just mixed stock photos a big damn shame!

Keepwalking just got into the finals of the wacom Contest at DA. CONGRATULATIONS!
The flipping thing is handled by and in the same way DA handles everything, so be sure to add your support on his CONTEST PIECE
Although there are some amazing images there in the finals; the same as DD's there are some that you say ...whut?? huh.gif and a very talented Painter that nevertheless strangely got 2 pieces in the finals fueled by her almost million pageviews and close friendship with some of the admin. She is an amazing painter but...common!
So to keep this from happening again we must support Keepwalking and whatever real art still there.
