I saw this not long ago on DA I was instantly impressed by the lighting on the lower right side planet, I am unsure if those lines are Aurora or something else but they remind me of the recent photos from the ISS of Aurora on Earth. Aside from that the background is very nice but that further planet is very plans and out of place as is the lighting on the dark side of both planets.
A good way to improve on this is instead of making the dark side of a planet black is to make it a darker tone of the most dominant colour in the background, in this case blue/purple, Fill the black dark side with that colour and set to screen mode and change the opacity to very low, alternatively mess with the colour dodge mode and then pressing Ctrl+U to open the Hue/Saturation menu and lower the brightness, you will notice it fades but still picks out highlights, it's a very nice tool.
Also I love the sun light coming over the planet its very crisp and that dabbled effect is rather unique. Good work smile.gif

It looks pretty cool though you need to work on the values some more, the background mech is pretty much the same tone and contrast as the foreground and compared the lighter softer background structures it doesn't fit in well. Lower the contrast on the mech and lighten the mech up a bit, an easy way to do that is to select the mechs outline (Ctrl+Left Click the layer icon, not the layer name) and on a new layer fill it with the tone and colour from the background, then set to screen, or normal depending on what effect you want, then mess with the opacity till it feels like its being pushed into the background, also you can use a soft eraser to erase on low opacity some of the fill on the higher points of the mech. Values are a pain and one way I find that helps is to always have a layer at the very top of the list of solid black and set to "Saturation" layer mode, this will convert the image into grey scale which is really handy for spotting values. Foreground= strong contrast/colours, Background= low contrast/soft colours.

Very moody scene and very soft chunky brush strokes, the whole image reminds me of a scene in the movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs where a giant food cloud rolls over the town haha.

Awesome work, I love some of the brush strokes very sharp and strong combined with some softer strokes. The use of values and placement of rock structures helps frame the image well. One thing to mess with might be motion blur, just to see what effects you can achieve with it, adding it to the dragons claws and parts of the knight would boost the paintings feeling of movement. But overall it's a fantastic painting you are really improving fast smile.gif

I like these kind of paintings as I always found adding photo reference to a painting really boosted it's realism my only critique would have to be that the difference between the background and foreground is very drastic whilst almost the entire background is painted the foregrounds seems to remain relatively un-touched, I can see some painted areas but maybe try wither adding more photo reference to the background or paint over more areas in the foreground.
Aside form that it's a very nice image, nice lighting and feel to it, keep it up smile.gif

Firstly let me say I loved Zack Snyder's past films, 300 was brilliant and Watchmen was great. Now thats out of the way Zack Snyder should be kept from actually writing his own stories, Sucker Punch felt like a punch in the face, it hurt like hell and as the movies tag line says "You will be unprepared". You go in thinking, hell it cant be that bad despite the reviews it has cool action scenes, alas it was terrible and even the action scenes couldn't save it, the whole film was disjointed and confusing and the action scenes just seemed pointless. The movie is the embodiment of Rule of Cool and thus fails at anything other than that.
Do the movie industry a favor and don't see this one.

Was given some mega epic news today, an indie dev team I've been working with Taitale Studios are off to PAX along with the entire dev team, including me. Off to showcase the game, the universe and the whole point and goal of the game. Also been in meetings with PAX CEO and will be meeting them there also regarding marketing and introducing us to industry big shots.

My work along with that of the Art Director and 3D artists will be on show in a gallery and many PC's up for playing the game, an unfinished version but before PAX a Beta is to be run so the version at PAX will be more refined and meatier.

5 days all expenses paid business trip hehe, I'm giddy with excitement and still cant quite believe it.

Sounds cool man, I loved both Black Hawk Down and D9, so I'm looking forward to seeing this. I was hoping it wouldn't turn out to be like Independence Day, for some reason I can't sit through that movie at all, makes me cringe.

Haha I quite liked ID but you will be glad to know this is nothing like ID

Just saw it today and I loved it, yeah the plot is a little thin, and its clichéd characters aren't anything to shout about but its just a damn fun violent film, the ratio between explosions ans clichés is about 5-1 respectively, not once did I find my self bored, constant action kept that at bay.
The gritty feel is what really drew me in, gone are the smooth alien ships and bright blue and green plasma, these guys look like they threw a large magnet into a scrap yard and whatever stuck they strap engines and guns too and call it done, and that is in no way a bad thing, everything about they down to the way the guns fire feels real, much like in District 9 you almost forget that these are aliens.
The special effects are brilliant and the soundtrack also adds some really cool overtones in sections, one track that's brilliant kicks in just as they ride into the city in a Chinook and see the ongoing destruction.
At one point I was worried as they found kids but fortunately they never talk, well one does for a bit, then they get sent away with the rest of the civvies about half way through their journey. There is a bit of a Hero speech thing about half way through that's a little cringe worthy but that's replaced seconds later with tank on alien death match.

The whole movie is one big guilty pleasure, you know you shouldn't like it as much as you do, it has little plot but then again how much plot can you really have in an alien invasion movie, but just the action, the grit, the second after second of heart pounding explosions is enough to make me want more. You forgive the plot holes and the terrible acting of the cicilian vet who is laughable due to her line "I can help you find a weakness in these aliens, I'm a vet" .... yeah.
It is basically Blackhawk Down meets District 9 an action movie and nothing more and it doesn't try hard to be anything but and that pays off, hell at least it wasn't another Skyline mwhahaha

So if you like well scripted and pretty eye popping action scenes with a gritty real world feel and none of this family orientated crap that taints so many action films these days then this is probably right up your alley. Just a fun movie.

Not bad, some pointers though, on the rings only the parts in direct sunlight will be glowing brightly, they need a shadow on them where the planet obscures the light. There is a layer edge on the soft fluffy cloud effect just to the right of the big planet and tiny moon, a sharp edge where the layer just ends.
Some of the lighting on the planets don't quite match up with the position of the sun, the position of the shadows seem off on some of them, they need tilting so the highlighted areas face the sun.
Also as some of the planets or moons are almost obscuring the sun the areas of the planet that are lit up could be a lot smaller but that's more of just an idea rather than a mistake.
Over all its looking good keep up the work and I look forward to seeing more form you.

Nice detail and rendering, also I like the style it reminds me of the Combine dropship from Half Life 2 a little. The black areas are perhaps too dark maybe in future try to make them less dark so more detail can come through, I'd imagine those areas would have lots of cool pipes and "under the hood" mechanics.

I expected a little bit more action from 'Monsters'. But the way it played out satisfied me as well. A lot of stuff in the movie was improvised which keeps lots of the dialogue scene natural. There's this one scene at the end when two of these big creatures meet up and damn it's such a beautiful scene. I completely agree to the things already said... it's worth a watch. Goes the same direction 'Moon' goes. I like the fact that vfx and everything became so affordable that independent scifi productions can really look awesome now. With the past decade pretty much ignoring scifi (with a few exceptions) and going more fantasy... i hope it swings back to scifi for the next years. Thanks to the success of Cameron's Avatar.

Still have to see Tron... even if reviews aren't that good... :-s i want it to be awesome!!! Damn...

Tron is a good film, the 3D is pretty cool in that its 2D in the "real world" and then goes 3D when it transitions into the Grid. The design and fell of the film is very cool and the soundtrack is brilliant.

I enjoyed it a lot more than I had hoped, many seemed to put it into the same vein as Skyline, I was very happy to see that it couldnt be further from Skyline. It was very much story driven, no big action scenes a rather frsh take on the whole alien invasion story in whats fast becoming a year of nothing but alien invasion flicks.

Despite this sudden saturation of alien flicks I'm looking forward to Battle Los Angeles.
