Greetings,

Like so many others it seems, I've also been receiving a mass of spam PMs. I don't post here in the forums often, but I do occasionally come and see if there is anything new or interesting going on. However, at the rate these spam PMs are coming, I am seriously thinking of deleting my account here on the forum and just watch you guys through DeviantArt and view the new exhibitions as they become available. I really don't know what's going on with the site to the point that such a spam bot invasion is so intense, but if the problem can't be fixed soon, I feel it isn't worth having an account here.

Just letting you know how I'm feeling about the situation.

Thanks,
UGS

They're persistant little buggers... new ones on the loose some dating link, more virus things... it's like yeah right... I work Microsoft IT I'm pretty sure I'd be aware if there was a virus on my computer, I have antimalware on here for lfe always running... these guys are chumps... using a link to try to hack... not that I would but I see the fail in trying to do it. if it's not forums its directly e-mail... I want to see some spam come through my work e-mail using microsofts yeah, i'd probably get in trouble, but if they got the e-mail without me giving it out... oh microsoft would be on them so quick their heads would spin... or so i'd hope... they take any breach in security seriously. >.>

@ Sneaky/ Smiling Demon: There's a way you can get this to stop temperarily if you want to go that route until you get FTP access and can change some major settings, you should be able to disable PM's for a bit in the ACP or admin center, whichever IP Board uses

This reminds me of what I did on my forum: only people that have 1 or more posts are eligible to send PMs. Thus, the bots that don't post can't send those PMs.

Isn't it a little ridiculous that some people want to quit their forum-membership because of spam-PMs? I mean, you can stop the engine from sending emails when you receive a pm, and you don't need to click on anything when you're logged in. Is that so hard to do?

Done that, anyone who has under 25 posts might have to post again to get moved to the new group and be able to PM again.

Your computer was noticed in email spam. It is quite possible that it is a part of botnet (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botnet). Strongly recommend you to scan your computer for malware. You can do it online at: http://total-scan.org/spammers/IceBlue87
Please, follow this. Otherwise I have to send abuse mail to your ISP with all the ensuing consequences.

Yea, I checked some settings last night and made sure the 25 user post thing was working correctly and it was setup correctly, but as far as that goes any other spamming done please report to us so we can handle the users that are still able to use PM's.

I haven't received any spam in my inbox as of yet, but Im sure its a matter of time.

again, please let us know all the information about the PM so we can handle each case accordingly.

Thanks

And yes, we have FTP access again, and the artist page has been fixed. If there's any other site problems/errors, please let me or another admin know. Thanks!
